"Oh my God, you did. You Miyagi'd me!"

The three major movies coming to theaters this weekend are Cowboys & Aliens, The Smurfs and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Crazy, Stupid, Love stars Steve Carrell as a husband who has just learned that his wife, played by Julianne Moore, has cheated on him and wants a divorce. He tries to start dating again and ends up seeking the advice of the thirty-something "ladies man" at his local bar, played by Ryan Gosling. Gosling, in turn, needs Carrell's help when he finally finds the girl who can resist his charms. This movie also stars Kevin Bacon, Emma Stone and Marisa Tomei.

"There are men laying down their lives. I got no right to do any less than that."

I enjoyed Captain America: The First Avenger a lot. I was not sure going into it that I would like it because the initial reviews were not that stellar, but it really was quite entertaining. I would not say it was the best movie of the summer, but it is definitely worth seeing.

There are a few spoilers here, so I advise you to proceed with caution.

The first thing that stood out to me in the movie was that it was funnier than I expected it to be. There is very little humor in any of the trailers, but there is a lot of humor in the film. I am not saying it is a comedy, but there are some great one liners. I do not know why I was so surprised by this, but I was, and I it was one of the things that made me like this film as much as I did.

"Sometimes, you have to roll a hard six."

The main problem with it being so hot outside the past few weeks is that all I want to do is lay on a raft in my aunt and uncle's pool and read. This is a problem because then I do not get anything else accomplished...like writing this blog :o)

I have, however, managed to keep up with all my summer TV shows.

My returning shows that I have continued to love include White Collar, The Glades and In Plain Sight. They just seem to keep getting better and better. My favorite episode of White Collar so far this season has been "Veiled Threat," where the boys go undercover at a Manhattan Millionaires Bachelor auction, and I look forward to an Eliza Dushku guest appearance later this season. I have also quite enjoyed the continuing development in the relationship between Jim and Callie on The Glades and the pregnancy of U.S.  Marshall Mary Shannon on In Plain Sight. Highly entertaining all around.

The two new shows that I have enjoyed this summer are Necessary Roughness and Suits. I would not say that I love either of them just yet, but they are entertaining enough for me to stick with them through the end of their seasons. To be completely honest, I mostly watch Necessary Roughness because of Marc Blucas, but the storylines are good too :o)

Peggy: You have something against running away?

Steve: You start runnin', they'll never let you stop
------------------------------------

The two big films opening tomorrow are Captain America: The First Avenger and Friends with Benefits.

Friends with Benefits stars Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake as two friends who decide to start having sex without being in a romantic relationship. In fact, they are purposely trying to avoid all the Hollywood clichés that you always see in romantic comedies. However, despite their best efforts, their relationship still gets complicated.

"I always wanted to use that spell"

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two was FANTASTIC. I am not sure that it was my favorite of all the movies, I think that is still the Order of the Phoenix, but it was awesome nonetheless. I have only seen it once, but have plans to see it again this week.

After having watched most of the previous five movies on ABC Family last weekend, I have to say, it it quite impressive how much the children's acting has improved in the last ten years. Most of them were quite dreadful in the first movie and all of them have turned into great actors. The adults, however, have always been fantastic and Alan Rickman seriously deserves an Academy Award for his portrayal of Professor Severus Snape.

While I did have a few issues with the film, in comparison to the books, they are mostly minor details and did not take anything away from the plot.

If you have not yet seen the movie and do not want any spoilers then STOP READING NOW.

If you have already seen the movie, or just do not care about spoilers, then you may continue.

"You have fought valiantly. Now, join me and confront your fate."

Apologies for my lateness with this post, I have been battling a sinus infection all week and have mostly been lying in bed watching Battlestar Gallactica on blu ray. While I am still not feeling that great, I would not leave you without your Weekend Movie Preview :o)

The two big movies coming out this weekend are Winnie the Pooh and, of course, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Narrated by John Cleese, this new Winnie the Pooh film brings us back to the Hundred Acre Wood with all our favorite characters. After misinterpreting a note from Christopher Robin, Pooh and his friends set out to save him from what they believe to be a monster. It looks fantastic and definitely brings me back to my childhood. I definitely look forward to seeing this soon.

Nick: My boss, who we're planning to kill, is dying in front of you and you save his life?!

Dale: Well that sounds bad when you say it like that.
-------------------------------------

I thought that Horrible Bosses was really funny. It is getting good reviews, but I still was not sure that I would like it. I do not know how I would describe my sense of humor, but I do not always agree with the mainstream about what is funny. Regardless, I thought this movie was great.

I have said this before and I will say it again, Charlie Day is hilarious. I love him on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I loved him in Going the Distance and I love him in this movie. His characters' personalities do not really vary all that much from role to role, but they are always funny. I also think that Day, Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis together are a great combination. They seem to play off each other really well and they are all just naturally funny actors.

Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey were also fantastic as the "horrible bosses." Spacey is just all-around a great actor, so this was not a surprise from him. I also think that Aniston is a great actress, she has just picked some bad movies since being on Friends, so it is nice to see her back in a good role. Colin Farrell was fine but not quite as entertaining as the other two. And, while I thought that Jamie Foxx was very funny, I did not think that his character was entirely necessary to the plot of the film. As you can see from the clip below, the advice that he gives to the guys is probably something they could have figured out on their own.

"So raise to me a parting glass, good night and joy be with you all"

Last month, I got the chance to see an awesome performance by Glen Hansard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He played as a celebration of the exhibit "Guitar Heroes: Legendary Craftsmen from Italy to New York." The event was presented by Spectrum, which is an initiative organized by the Met to provide fresh perspectives on the Museum's collections and special exhibitions.

The entire performance was posted by Spectrum on YouTube. It is an hour long, but I have reposted it for you here in case you have any interest and could not make it to the show. It was fantastic and I highly recommend you take the time to watch the entire thing. And for all you Friday Night Lights fans out there, you will especially enjoy the song at minute 33:20.

I hope that everyone has a FABulous weekend!

xoxo

Pellitt: Oh yeah, we gotta trim some of the fat around here

Kurt: Trim the...what do you mean by "trim the fat"?
Pellitt: I want you to fire the fat people

In theaters this weekend are Zookeeper and Horrible Bosses.

Kevin James stars as the Zookeeper in this comedy about a group of zoo animals who decide to help their keeper find romance. The animals break their code of silence to give him tips on how to win a particular ladies' heart so that he does not leave the zoo in search of a more prestigious job. This movie also stars Rosario Dawson, Leslie Bibb, Ken Jeong, Donnie Wahlberg, Joe Rogan and Nicholas Turturro.

"You're dumber than you think I think you are."

I spent last weekend in our nation's capital and had a great time with old friends. The only movie I managed to watch was Star Trek...again. However, in the past week, I finally got around to watching Unstoppable and Chinatown. The latter of which I got from Netflix and has been sitting in my room for over a month. The problem with summer is that I do not want to sit inside and watch movies, but rather sit outside and read.

But I digress....
